MSGEQ7 Equalizer IC: Datasheet, Arduino, Circuit [Video&FAQ]

  • Contents

Product Overview

MSGEQ7 is a seven-band graphic equalizer IC that divides audio spectrum into following seven bands: 63Hz, 160Hz, 400Hz, 1kHz, 2.5kHz, 6.25kHz, and 16kHz. These seven frequencies are peak detected and are multiplexed to the output. This gives a DC representation of the amplitude of each band. The multiplexer is controlled using just two pins, reset and strobe. Only an off-chip resistor and capacitor are needed to select an on-chip clock oscillator frequency. There is no need for any external components for selecting the filter responses.

This blog will introduce MSGEQ7 systematically from its features, pinout to its specifications, applications, also including MSGEQ7 datasheet and so much more.

MSGEQ7 FAQ

What does msgeq7 do on an Arduino?

The graphic equalizer chip manages the process of sampling and measuring the audio frequencies you provide it automatically. The trick is getting the timing of your code down correctly to accurately reset the chip, and to manage the steps necessary to move through the frequency measurements.

How much data is in the msgeq7 library?

The data is of values from 0 to 255 (8 bits).

How is the msgeq7 used to analyze music?

The MSGEQ7 is an IC designed to analyze sound (actually, any signal of varying voltages; in the case of sound or music, a signal as from a microphone). The chip measures aspects of input in seven frequency bands, and can provide output related to one (at a time) of these bands as an analog DC voltage signal.

What is the seven band graphic equalizer IC?

The seven band graphic equalizer IC is a CMOS chip that divides the audio spectrum into seven bands. 63Hz, 160Hz, 400Hz, 1kHz, 2.5kHz, 6.25kHz and 16kHz. The seven frequencies are peak detected and multiplexed to the output to provide a DC representation of the amplitude of each band.

What can a graphic equalizer be used for?

The Circuit Concept A graphic equalizer is a type of complex tone control circuit which can be applied to smooth out or enhance the frequency response of any hi-fi audio amplifier, or in a guitar effects unit.
