Product Overview

The NCV8450/A is a fully protected High−Side Smart Discrete device with a typical RDS(on) of 1.0 and an internal current limit of 0.8 A typical. The device can switch a wide variety of resistive, inductive, and capacitive loads.

NCV8450ASTT3G Video Description: In this video I look at Switch Mode Power supplies - in particular the Buck Converter. And to get a bit more focused, I look at the high side switch and how the driver for this component should look like. I analyse both N channel and P channel high side switches.

NCV8450ASTT3G FAQ

What are high side drivers?

A high side driver is one in which the switching element is between Vcc and the load. A low side driver is one in which the switching element is between the load and common. A self-contained load such as a DC motor, solenoid/relay, light or LED string, can usually be drive.

What is a high side mosfet driver?

Microchip MIC5019 High-Side N-Channel MOSFET Driver is an ultra-small device with an integrated charge pump that is designed to switch an N-Channel enhancement type MOSFET control signal in high-side or low-side applications.

What does high side and low side driver means?

A low-side driver is placed between the load and ground, whereas a high-side driver, is placed between the load and the supply voltage. The low-side driver is often used for powertrain-related loads such as motors, solenoids, and heaters.
