MMA8453QR1 FAQ

Description

The MMA8453Q is a smart, low-power, three-axis, capacitive, micromachined accelerometer with 10 bits of resolution. This accelerometer is packed with embedded functions with flexible user programmable options, configurable to two interrupt pins. Embedded interrupt functions allow for overall power savings relieving the host processor from continuously polling data.

The MMA8453Q has user selectable full scales of ±2 g/±4 g/±8 g. The device can be configured to generate inertial wakeup interrupt signals from any combination of the configurable embedded functions allowing the MMA8453Q to monitor events and remain in a low-power mode during periods of inactivity. The MMA8453Q is available in a 16-pin QFN, 3 mm x 3 mm x 1 mm package.

MMA8453QR1 FAQ

What is digital accelerometer?

An accelerometer is a tool that measures proper acceleration. Proper acceleration is the acceleration (the rate of change of velocity) of a body in its own instantaneous rest frame; this is different from coordinate acceleration, which is acceleration in a fixed coordinate system.

How does a digital accelerometer work?

An accelerometer works using an electromechanical sensor that is designed to measure either static or dynamic acceleration. Static acceleration is the constant force acting on a body, like gravity or friction.

What does an accelerometer detect?

Accelerometers are sensing devices that measure a moving object's acceleration and can detect frequency and intensity of human movement.
