Seoul Semiconductor has developed the industry’s smallest phase-cut DC LED driver series, with a power density 10X higher than conventional LED drivers. The NanoDriver Series is the world’s smallest miniature converter at just 13.5 mm wide, and is available in four versions rated for 16 W and 24 W output power for operating LED lighting with input power of 120 V/230 V (50 – 60 Hz). Manufactured with Seoul Semiconductor’s original Acrich technology, the NanoDriver Series features an IC directly attached to the substrate, dramatically reducing the size of the converter.(NanoDriver Series phase-cut LED drivers measure just 13.5 mm × 13.5 mm × 1.42 mm)In the future, Seoul Semiconductor will also launch the MicroDriver Series high performance drivers for LED lighting fixtures from 900 to 2400 lumens. The MicroDriver Series is designed with a miniature package that reduces the size of the converter by more than 10X to enable the integration of the control circuitry with the external driver, making it possible to mount more light sources on the board, reduce the size of the board. The NanoDriver Series requires few external components, and delivers 16 W/24 W of output power in a package just 13.5 mm × 13.5 mm × 1.42 mm. These drivers are ideal for downlight, flush mount, track and spotlight fixtures. Their small size enables ultra-thin and novel fixture designs in wall sconces, making conventional lamp replacement possible without the need for a large volume recess for the driver, or a reduction in the light output. The resulting decrease in the LED drivers’ physical size has significant business implications for the lighting industry, giving lighting designers the ability to shrink the size of light fixtures by as much as 20, which reduces shipping and storage costs. Because conventional LED drivers are both heavy and bulky, they are typically shipped via sea freight from manufacturers in Asia to European and North American fixture companies, with transit times up to six weeks. The NanoDriver Series are small and lightweight enough to make airfreight practical and economical, reducing transit time and making the overall supply chain more flexible and responsive. The NanoDriver Series is available in four models rated for output power of 16 W and 24 W, for LED assemblies operating at input voltages of 120 V/230 V (50 – 60 Hz). The drivers have typical efficiencies of 85 and power factor correction (PFC) of > 0.9, and are rated for inrush current of <30 mA, with an over-temperature protection feature that limits the LED current at temperatures above 160 °C. Operating temperature range is –40 °C to +70 °C (ambient) and –40 °C to +120 °C (at TC point). The drivers are UL recognized, provide flicker-free, low ripple current operation for phase-cut dimmers, and are compliant to California Title 24, enabling lighting designers to meet the most challenging design requirements, including low flicker, high power factor, Class B EMI and 2 kV surge. Linear Technology announces the LT3760, an 8-channel LED driver, utilizing a step-up DC/DC controller capable of driving up to a 45V string of 100mA LEDs per channel. Its internal 60V, 1MHz DC/DC boost mode controller is designed to operate as a constant current LED driver for up to 80 white LEDs. From a 12V input, the LT3760 can drive 8 channels, each with up to ten 100mA white LEDs in series while delivering efficiencies exceeding 92%. Its multichannel capability makes it ideal for medium and large-sized TFT-LCD backlighting applications. Its input voltage range of 6V to 40V makes it ideal for automotive, avionic, HDTV and industrial display applications. The LT3760 offers ±2.0% (±0.7% typical) LED current matching to ensure uniform brightness of the display. Dimming ratios as high as 3,000:1 can be attained by using True Color PWM™ dimming. A programmable 100kHz to 1MHz fixed frequency operation and current mode architecture offers stable operation over a wide range of supply and output voltages while minimizing the size of the external components. Additionally, the switching frequency is synchronizable to an external clock. Its thermally enhanced TSSOP-28 package offers a highly compact solution footprint for most LED backlighting applications. The LT3760 uses an external N-Channel MOSFET switch to provide a boost mode constant current source. However, even when VIN exceeds VOUT, the LT3760 will continue to accurately regulate the LED current. The internal boost controller uses an adaptive feedback loop to drive up to eight channels of ten 100mA LEDs to regulate the output voltage slightly higher than the required LED voltage to ensure maximum efficiency. If any of the LED strings experience an open circuit, the LT3760 will continue to regulate the existing strings and signal the FAULT alert pin. If higher current LEDs are required, multiple strings can be combined, enabling the LT3760 to drive up to four channels of ten 200mA LEDs or two channels of ten 400mA LEDs. Additional features include programmable LED current derating based on junction temperature and LED temperature and programmable output voltage limiting when all LED strings are disconnected. Diodes Incorporated introduced the BCR401U, BCR402U and BCR405U. Appealing to lighting designers, these constant-current regulators enable simple driving of low- current LED strips and panels in the commercial and industrial lighting sectors. Targeted at 12 V and 24 V linear LED strips, these regulators increase light output efficiency as they only require a 1.4 V supply, allowing more LEDs in the string. By achieving regulation within ±10% and providing preset options of 10 mA (BCR401U), 20 mA (BCR402U), and 50 mA (BCR405U) that can be adjusted up to 100 mA, these regulators simplify the design, minimize component count, and overall enhance system reliability by integrating the driver. Combined with the improved efficiency and longer life offered by LEDs, many lighting applications including advertising, emergency, refrigeration, decorative, architectural and other general forms are being superseded with this emerging light source. Delivering a regulated current over a wide 1.4 V to 40 V supply, the BCR40xU will tolerates voltage spikes and LED short failures in strings, whilst preserving LED brightness and longevity. This, along with a negative temperature coefficient that reduces the LED current with rising temperature, helps to increase the LED lifespan by reducing dissipation and additionally enables parallel device operation for increased current in applications requiring more than 100 mA. The BCR40xU operates as a linear LED driver, minimizing the likelihood of EMI, which is particularly important in medical lighting and other sensitive applications, while LED brightness can be PWM controlled with <1% duty cycle at 25 kHz allowing accurate dimming to low light levels. Allegro MicroSystems, LLC announces the release of a new micropower LED driver IC that features an integrated Hall-effect switch. The APS13568 enables compact, elegant, reliable, and fault-tolerant LEDlighting with minimal electrical engineering and low component-count and cost. A single silicon chip integrates: a micropower regulator, a Hall plate, a small-signal amplifier, chopper stabilization, a Schmitt trigger, open drain Hall-Effect switch output, output polarity selection, and an LED driver with soft on/off and short circuit and thermal protection with automatic recovery. The integrated solid-state Hall-effect switch supports silent, sealed, contactless activation and offers a significant upgrade from failure-prone mechanical switches and provides very low standby current (< 50 μA).The LED driver features low-noise, adjustable, linear drive of up to 150mA into one or more LEDs. An optional external capacitor programs the turn-on/turn-off rate, adding an elegant “theater” effect. It is controlled by the Hall-effect switch and turns on and off in response to a magnet. The Hall-effect switch is omnipolar (responsive to both North and South magnetic poles) and highly sensitive (BOP = 40G) to support a wide range of mechanical configurations and enclosures with various air-gaps and degrees of mechanical misalignment. The AP13568 features selectable output polarity as well as an open drain output for connecting to additional external circuitry.This new device complements Allegro Microsystem’s existing portfolios of LED drivers and Hall-effect switches by adding an external output and micropower operation (<50 μA). It is targeted at consumer electronics, white goods, boats, RVs, motorcycles, and interior and auxiliary automotive lighting applications such as glove boxes, center consoles, vanity mirrors, trunks/boots, truck beds, etc. The on-board micropower regulator permits operation with supply voltages of 7 V to 24 V while providing very low average supply current when the output is disabled. Reliability and EMC performance are enhanced with Zener clamps, output short-circuit protection, thermal shutdown, and reverse-battery protection. Superior Hall switch performance is made possible through dynamic offset cancellation, which reduces the residual offset voltage normally caused by device overmolding, temperature drift, and thermal stress.The device is available in two versions: the “K” option is an automotive-grade (AEC-Q100) device that operates from -40 °C to +125 °C; the “E” option is for industrial and consumer applications that operate from -40 °C to 85 °C. Philips Lighting has introduced TrueForce LED Urban for replacing high pressure mercury (80W/125W) and sodium ovoid lamps (50W/70W) in streets, residential roads, parks and public squares. The frosted version of the Urban produces 4,400 lm from a 33W input (133.33 lm/W @ 4,000K 70CRI), while the clear version puts out 4,800 lm. There are also frosted and clear 25W versions (2,900 and 3,200 lm). At the same time, it announced TrueForce LED Industrial and Retail for replacing traditional HID lamps – expected to be available in the second half of this year.The TrueForce LED range is rated at 50,000 hours and comes with a five-year warranty.The third stage of the European Commission Regulation (EC) 245/2009 came into effect on April 13, 2017 – introducing stricter efficiency requirements for HID lamps and requires light sources not meeting the minimum energy efficiency requirements to be phased out, said Philips.Ref:KY59-VC1512135W3DKY59-LE-MG-24W
