Optoelectronics
Optoelectronics is based on the quantum mechanical effects of light on electronic materials, particularly semiconductors. Optoelectronics is the study and application of electronic devices that source, detect, and control light. Optoelectronic devices are made up of various semiconductor alloys that are layered on substrates. During the growth of a laser active region's multi-quantum well, different layers of semiconductors are sequentially deposited onto the substrate, alternating between well and barrier regions. Electrons and holes are recombined in good regions to produce laser light, whereas barrier regions are important for confining electrons and holes inside the wells. Engineers and hobbyists use optoelectronic devices from design to manufacturing.
