Elpida Memory

Elpida Memory, Inc. was a Japanese company that specialized in the development, design, manufacture, and sale of semiconductor products, particularly dynamic random-access memory (DRAM) chips. Founded in 1999 through the merger of NEC and Hitachi's DRAM operations, Elpida became one of the world's top DRAM manufacturers, producing DDR (double data rate) and Rambus-based DRAMs. The company operated globally with subsidiaries in various regions, including Germany, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and the United States. Despite its significant contributions to the DRAM industry, Elpida faced financial challenges, including a major debt crisis, and eventually filed for corporate rehabilitation in 2012. In 2013, Micron Technology acquired Elpida Memory, rebranding it as Micron Memory Japan Co., Ltd. on February 28, 2014.
