Description

The LTC4013 is a high voltage battery charger controller that supports float, absorption and equalization lead-acid and constant-current/constant-voltage Li-Ion charging algorithms. It is particularly well suited for charging a wide range of lead-acid batteries, including both vented and sealed type. The LTC4013 also supports Li-Ion/Polymer, LiFePO4, NiMH, NiCd and other battery types.

 

Charging is performed with a high efficiency synchronous buck (step-down) converter that uses external N-channel MOSFETs. Switching frequency is programmed with a resistor or synchronized with an external clock for use in multiphase applications. Charge current is set with an external sense resistor. The device includes maximum power point tracking input voltage regulation for limited power inputs such as solar panels. Other features include user-programmable absorption and equalization times, temperature-adjusted regulation voltages and an external NFET isolation diode.
