Video Description: PCB Layout of a PIC16F1947 Communications Module PC0-100134.

This design took just under 6 hours to layout. The circuit consists of a PIC16F1947 microcontroller, a MAX485 RS485 transceiver with a FTDI232RL USB transceiver, running simultaneously on the second USART with the TTL lines switched via a MAX4684 switch IC.  Also on the board is a MAX232 Serial transceiver running on the first USART, a 20x4 LCD with four input buttons, a FPF2700MX Power Management switch instead of a fuse, a 5 volt LDO regulator and four TPD8S009 High Performance TVS Diode arrays for ESD protection on four 8 bit parallel ports that can be used to accept keypad inputs or anything that might require an 8 bit port.

PIC16F1947-I/PT FAQ

What are 8-bit microcontrollers used for?

8-bit MCUs can implement an ultra-low-power platform that includes the complete signal chain for applications such as personal blood pressure monitors, pulsoximeters, and heart rate monitors. Remote patient monitoring is also a growing trend, using devices with integrated RF/ZigBee or Wi-Fi interfaces and transceivers.

What is a flash based device?

A Flash based SSD is a solid state drive that uses NAND flash memory. NAND flash is a nonvolatile form of storage that is critical for allowing SSDs to match the capacity and performance of hard disk drives, or HDDs.

What is flash based memory?

Flash storage is a data storage technology based on high-speed, electrically programmable memory. The speed of flash storage is how got its name: It writes data and performs random I/O operations in a flash. Flash storage uses a type of nonvolatile memory called flash memory.

What is LCD and how it works?

A liquid-crystal display (LCD) is a flat-panel display or other electronically modulated optical device that uses the light-modulating properties of liquid crystals combined with polarizers. Liquid crystals do not emit light directly, instead using a backlight or reflector to produce images in color or monochrome.

What does an LCD driver do?

An LCD controller drives alternating voltage across the two electrodes such that the average is zero (to avoid permanent alignment of crystals). We apply the voltage to the front plane and backplane of each LCD segment to make it work.
