Product Overview

Designed for use as high−frequency drivers in audio amplifiers.

MJE15032 Video Description: Using a digital multimeter in diode test mode, we can check NPN and PNP transistors to see if they have semiconductor junctions in tact, and we can also identify which pin is emitter, collector, and base.

Using diode check mode along with a resistance measurement, we can also check if a JFET appears to be functional.

MJE15032 FAQ

What is a bipolar transistor?

Bipolar transistors are a type of transistor composed of pn junctions, which are also called bipolar junction transistors (BJTs). Whereas a field-effect transistor is a unipolar device, a bipolar transistor is so named because its operation involves two kinds of charge carriers, holes and electrons.

Why is it called a bipolar transistor?

Bipolar transistors are called bipolar because the main flow of current through them takes place in two types of semiconductor material: P and N, as the main current goes from emitter to collector (or vice versa).

What's the purpose of bipolar transistors?

Bipolar transistors are still used for amplification of signals, switching, and in digital circuits. Specialized types are used for high voltage switches, for radio-frequency amplifiers, or for switching heavy currents.

How does a bipolar transistor work?

Bipolar transistors are current-controlled and operated devices, meaning that a much smaller base current causes a larger current to flow from emitter to collector. Whereas transformers can amplify either current or voltage, transistors can amplify both.

What is an NPN transistor used for?

NPN transistors are used in amplifying circuit applications. NPN transistors are used in the Darlington pair circuits for amplifying weak signals. NPN transistors are used in applications we need sinking current. NPN transistors are used in some classic amplifier circuits, the same as 'push-pull' amplifier circuits.
