MIC2026-1YM-TR Description

The MIC2026 and MIC2076 are high-side MOSFET switches optimized for general-purpose power distribution that requires circuit protection.The MIC2026/76 are internally current limited and have thermal shutdown that protects the device and load. The MIC2076 offers “smart” thermal shutdown that reduces current consumption in fault modes. When a thermal shutdown fault occurs, the output is latched off until the faulty load is removed. Removing the load or toggling the enable input will reset the device output. Both devices employ soft-start circuitry that minimizes inrush current in applications where highly capacitive loads are employed.

 

A fault status output flag is asserted during overcurrent and thermal shutdown conditions. Transient faults are internally filtered.The MIC2026/76 are available in an 8-pin SOIC package.

What is high side switch MOSFET?

High-side means the current travels from the supply through the mosfet to the load and then to ground. Another way to put that is: Low-side = mosfet source to ground, drain to load, load to supply. High-side = mosfet drain to supply, source to load, load to ground.

 

What does a high side switch do?

High-side switches are used to turn electrical loads ON and OFF by switching the positive (high-) side of the load supply.

 

When would you use a high side switch?

High-side switching is the preferred switching technique in situations where short circuits to ground are likelier to occur than short circuits to the positive power line. Think for instance of cars or machines where most of the structure or body is connected to ground.

 

What is difference between high side and low side current sensing?

The difference is based off on the location of the sense resistor. Low side sensing is between load and ground, with high side sensing between power and the load. A high side current sensor, with a precision trimmed preset gain of either 20, 50, or 100.

 

How do you drive a high side MOSFET?

Here when the high-side MOSFET is off, a capacitor is charged from the driving voltage. The capacitor charges through the load or a supporting low-side MOFSET. When the high-side MOSFET is to be turned on/driven, the voltage on the capacitor is used to drive the high-side MOSFET.
