MBRA340T3G Video Description: The Schottky diode is a two terminal device which works similar to the diode but has some unique features.

 

1) Low Forward Voltage Drop (Typically 0.3 V to 0.5V)

2) Small Reverse Recovery Time

 

Due to its Low Forward Voltage Drop, it is used in the high power applications. (High current and relatively low power applications)

 

And due to its small reverse recovery time, it is used in the fast switching applications (e.g SMPS, communication devices (RF mixer and detector circuits)

What is the difference between Schottky diode and normal diode?

Like other diodes, the Schottky diode controls the direction of current flow in a circuit. However, unlike standard diodes, the Schottky diode is known for its low forward voltage and fast switching ability. This makes them an ideal choice for radio frequency applications and any device with low voltage requirements.

 

What is the Schottky diode and how it works?

In a Schottky diode, a semiconductor–metal junction is formed between a semiconductor and a metal, thus creating a Schottky barrier. The N-type semiconductor acts as the cathode and the metal side acts as the anode of the diode. This Schottky barrier results in both a low forward voltage drop and very fast switching.

 

What is the difference between a Zener diode and a Schottky diode?

Schottky diodes and Zener diodes are two different types of diodes. The main difference between Schottky and Zener diode is that a Schottky diode is made of a metal-semiconductor junction whereas a Zener diode is made of a p-n junction of two highly-doped semiconductors.

 

Can I replace Schottky diode with normal diode?

Schottky diodes are, really, always as fast as can be and should not be replaced with slower Si diodes, even when they're labeled "fast". The general rule is: Don't replace Schottky with Si diodes.
