Product Overview

The DS3231 is a low-cost, extremely accurate I2C real-time clock (RTC) with an integrated temperature compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) and crystal. The device incorporates a battery input, and maintains accurate timekeeping when main power to the device is interrupted. The integration of the crystal resonator enhances the long-term accuracy of the device as well as reduces the piece-part count in a manufacturing line. The DS3231 is available in commercial and industrial temperature ranges, and is offered in a 16-pin, 300-mil SO package.

 

The RTC maintains seconds, minutes, hours, day, date, month, and year information. The date at the end of the month is automatically adjusted for months with fewer than 31 days, including corrections for leap year. The clock operates in either the 24-hour or 12-hour format with an AM/PM indicator. Two programmable time-of-day alarms and a programmable square-wave output are provided. Address and data are transferred serially through an I2C bidirectional bus.

 

A precision temperature-compensated voltage reference and comparator circuit monitors the status of VCC to detect power failures, to provide a reset output, and to automatically switch to the backup supply when necessary. Additionally, the RST pin is monitored as a pushbutton input for generating a μP reset.

Function and instructions:

First, adjust the time, date, year, voltage error, temperature error cycle display item definition, alternate display interval

In the non-set state, press the left button, enter the time adjustment (note the middle of the colon is bright),

  1. At this time, "minutes" start flashing, press the right button to increase, adjust the range 00 ~ 59. After adjusting the "points"
  2. Press the left button again, then "hour" starts flashing, press the right button to increase, adjust the range of 00 ~ 23.
  3. Adjust the "hour", then press the left button to enter the date of adjustment (note the middle of the colon is off), then "day" began to flash, press the right to increase, adjust the range 1-31.
  4. Adjust the "day", then press the left button, then "month" began to flash, press the right button to increase, adjust the range 1-12.
  5. press the left button again, enter the error calibration function [x.xU] of the display voltage, the unit is 0.1V, the positive number increases, and the negative number decreases.
  6. Press the left button again to enter the temperature error calibration setting [Ac: xx], xx for the correction value, press the right button to increase, the positive sign increases, the negative number decreases, in degrees.
  7. (dd: 1) time + voltage, (dd: 2), and then press the left button to enter the loop display state. ) Time + temperature, (dd: 3) temperature + voltage. And then press the left button to enter the cycle to display the alternate interval dF option, press the right button to change the value, the greater the value the longer interval.
  8. Finally, press the left button to save all the set values and return to the normal display state.

The clock is supposedly accurate to 10 seconds per month.

 

Second, switch display items

In the non-set state, press the right button to switch the display item, the display will be in the time-date-temperature-voltage-alternating cycle display between the switch.

 

NOTE :

When used, the temperature of the probe as far away from the board,or the clock will heat affect the temperature measurement.

How accurate is the DS3231?
