Product Overview

The DP83867 device is a robust, low power, fully featured Physical Layer transceiver with integrated PMD sublayers to support 10BASE-Te, 100BASE-TX and 1000BASE-T Ethernet protocols. Optimized for ESD protection, the DP83867 exceeds 8-kV IEC 61000-4-2 (direct contact). The DP83867 is designed for easy implementation of 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet LANs. It interfaces directly to twisted pair media through an external transformer. This device interfaces directly to the MAC layer through Reduced GMII (RGMII) or embedded clock Serial GMII (SGMII). The DP83867 provides precision clock synchronization, including a synchronous Ethernet clock output. It has low latency and provides IEEE 1588 Start of Frame Detection. Designed for low power, the DP83867 consumes only 457 mW under full operating power. Wake-on-LAN can be used to lower system power consumption.

DP83867ERGZT FAQ

What is Ethernet physical layer transceiver?

An Industrial Ethernet PHY is a physical layer transceiver device for sending and receiving Ethernet frames based on the OSI network model. In the OSI model, Ethernet covers Layer 1 (the physical layer) and part of Layer 2 (the data link layer) and is defined by the IEEE 802.3 standard.

Is Ethernet a physical layer protocol?

The Ethernet physical layer is the physical layer functionality of the Ethernet family of computer network standards.

What is the purpose of physical layer?

Physical Layer is responsible for the communication of the unstructured raw data streams over a physical medium. Physical Layer maintains the data rate (how many bits a sender can send per second). It performs Synchronization of bits. It helps in Transmission Medium decision (direction of data transfer).
